We would like to introduce our team members one by one, so we have launched OdooFace. Every week you can read more and more interviews about us.

Let?s go!

Balázs Debrődi

Student of Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), 3rd year Bsc degree, Mechatronic Engineer.

1. Why did you join the project?

When I started university, at the Mechatronics Engineering Faculty, one topic that I?m really interested in was the smart home, the special lighting techniques and different devices that will be found in future people?s home. Unfortunately, there weren?t any special subject in this topic, everything revolved about production and manufacture.
I?ve almost gave up my dream to deal with smart homes, when on one mechanics lecture I heard about the competition. There was no question; I knew that my place is here, so I didn?t hesitate.

2. What are you doing in the project right now?

Currently I?m working with the mechatronics team on the control of the house. To live with a metaphor, we design the house?s nervous system, its heart, so we can truly arouse it.
In addition, with other divisions along, we will start the design of the lighting system. My task is to analyze the light of the illuminators, select the right one, and find the best location for them.

3. What do you expect from the future? What are you doing besides the project?

First of all, a lot of experience. During the competition I gain new knowledge, learn how to work in a team, be on time, work properly and cooperate with the colleagues. These are very important skills that are highly appreciated by future employers. These, of course, more distant goals. Primarily, I?m looking for a successful competition and with my optimism I believe in our victory.
Beyond the project and the university, I try to spend as much time as possible with my family, my girlfriend, my friends and with those who are important for me. And I?m also admiring my passions: hiking, biking, photography and a thousand of other things.

4. In your opinion, how will we participate in the competition? What do you think, what is the most difficult part of the project?

I?m optimistic, but see the things realistic. Without any boasting, I think our team is a very talent and creative one. We have dreamed such structures and ground plan, what no one has ever seen before. Therefore, if we manage to get a sufficient amount of support and have enough time as well, we will arrive to Madrid with a house, which will among the bests.
I think that the greatest danger lies in money, namely non-money that we cannot find enough sponsors. If we overcome this problem and be punctual, there will be no problem.

5. What results and merits have you achieved during your studies, tell me about it.

?Imagination is more important than knowledge.?- said Einstein. I can agree with it, so I wouldn?t like to talk about my studies, but about something else. Of course, I have good results, I was on competitions, I won some of them, I was praised by teachers, but that?s all. I find little successes much more important, for example when everybody is puzzled, but I figure out what to do and solve the problem.
In addition, I find human values, like honesty and reliability, important. I?m proud because people find me reliable; that I won?t let down my friends, and I always working like that, if I move ahead, my friends, my colleagues or my teammates don?t move back, but move forward with me.
Perhaps, what I most proud of, that I won a tactical performance tour with my friends, where we had to prove mutual trust, appreciation; we had to be persistent and determined; and besides our physical condition, we needed to use our tactical abilities. It was a kind of mini-shipwreck, fighting on the front-line, which shows, how much people worth.
